Looking for some daring adventure to round out your summer? The Missouri River 340 may be just the self-inflicted torture you’ve been looking for.
The Missouri River 340 is a race across the entire state of Missouri, from Kansas City to St. Charles. Competitors will race in canoes and kayaks on the Missouri River in a 4 day dash to cross the finish line. The race is set for August 2nd through the 6th.
I had the privilege to witness some spectacular racing this weekend at the Barber Motorsports track. Barber is a new course and as I understand it, one of the best. I skipped the Kart races on Friday because..um..who cares? Saturday showcased a lot of street vehicles like Porsches, BMW’s, Pontiacs, a few Chevy Cobalts and more. The rain won that race.
Sunday’s event, featured Porsche Daytona protoypes, although I did see some BMW’s, Pontiacs and a stray Chevy Corvette. Bobby Labonte of NASCAR fame was racing as well as actor, Patrick Dempsey. Once again, the rain came in. I left too early because the race continued on.
No visit to the Barber racetrack is complete until you stopped into the vintage museum on site there. 5 stories of antique motorcycles and unique racing cars await you.
Also on site is the Porsche Driving Experience. For a few thousand dollars you will get hands-on-traning, classroom training and then put a Porsche through its paces on the track yourself. WOW.
Barber Motor Sports really is a fantastic place to watch a race and see beautiful vehicles. The next time you are in town, I highly recomend it. More race/museum photos on my Flickr photo site as well as Photo Mojo.
An adventure race/rally like no other. A race from the UK all the way to Mongol, China. Check it out here. Sounds like fun and for a good cause too.
Race weekend at the Barber Motorsports track outside Birmingham, Alabama. Look for more of my pics on Sunday.

With endless river ways, 22 million acres of forests, and topographic diversity from the sugar white sands of Gulf beaches to Appalachian cliffs, it is home to a diverse wildlife population that includes 414 bird species. All of this is just part of what makes Alabama a natural choice for outdoor adventure. Landis picked up where another American left off last year, when Lance Armstrong completed his seventh and final Tour triumph. With the victory, Landis becomes the third American — joining Armstrong and three-time winner Greg LeMond — to win the Tour.
Can you read me now? Good! More later as I test & tweak the settings… in the meantime, here is a picture of a man with a danish on his head.
